the great revival

THE SITE IS REVIVED
ive been waiting to come back to this for so long but i was just too lazy. having the fact that i created that god awful blue flower????? layout was slowly chipping away at my dignity so i fixed it _ now, its a much more visually appealing 2000's nostalgia site, with mock beveled buttons rounded corners & everything.
i still have some things to fix and tweak, but im proud of what i have so far!
anecdotes during the creation process
when i started, i had no idea i was gonna totally overhaul it. i thought id just change up the colors, fix the home page, and id be done. but then i noticed that there were new themes! one that caught my eye was the bento theme for its sidebar layout. as you can see, i used it as a base to create the current theme _
when i first applied the theme and took a peak at the code, i saw unfamiliar
var(--xx)
in a lot of places. while im not not unaquainted with css, im still a loser who sucks at coding. i realized semi-quickly that this was referring to variables, and were used to quickly imput the same information in different parts of the website (horrible explanation, i.e. the h1 and h2 background would both be colored in usingvar(--bg-color-heading)
or somethingat first, i was annoyed how this was set up. i thought it was more efficient to just put the color codes for each instance, because of how i edit my personal site which is very random/has a lot of css for many different sections.
but as i started to code, i got used to it and preferred it.
also became semi-familiar with
calc()
because of the bento theme's usage of it _even as im finished, analyzing the code, there are still some things i dont get, such as
cramp()
used for defining the font size?? and how the og custom font was added (id love to add a pixelated font 2 complete the 2000's look back when fonts were all bitmap, but i dont know how 2 T__T...tried looking at the link that was importing the fonts in the og bento code, but that didn't help, so ill just deal with trebuchet (THE FONT IS NOT DATED!! IT IS AWESOME!!) for nowand now im here, writing this! im very proud of the blog and the efforts i put into it. even if it took a bit to get used to all these fancy css terms ive never used or seen before, it was a very rewarding experience customizing the blog to my disire _
